Totally agree. Reading FF is a tricky business, because you can start to incorporate it into your head-cannon and think that's the way the show or book series was all along. I always try to remind myself that FF is a personal ideal, and an author continuing the story in the path they originally intended is going to differ a lot from my image.
For example, I was originally expecting Gen to help Sophos a lot more in CoK, however I realize now that I'm was totally wrong, as that would have compromised Sophos's ability to grow as a character.
In other words, trust the author. As long as the story quality is good and the plot makes sense, I will trust an author enough to decide what is best for their own characters.
I didn't trust Megan when I read TT and that left me feeling a bit stupid! I hope I've learned! XD
